Hi,

I wanted to watch some HD 1080 trailers of 300, so i tried with my existing version of Quicktime (6.5 or something) and they wouldn't work.

At the bottom of the trailer page it said I required Quicktime 7... so I downloaded and installed it.

The install went through alright.

I started Firefox back up and loaded the trailer page and got a load of Quicktime errors. I tried in Internet Explorer and got the same errors:

"An error occurred inside a plug-in contained on this page."

"The plugin did not initialize properly."

Those errors come up a total of six times (six HD links: http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/300/hd/).

So, I rebooted & tried again, no luck.

I thought it might work if I save the links as and then run them off my desktop... Quicktime doesn't even start, not even with one of my existing videos that I know works.

So I reinstalled, again, no luck :(

I then tried to completley uninstall Quicktime as I was going to find alternative links, but now the horrible thing won't uninstall.

When I try uninstall it starts rolling back the action and then it says:

"The installed has encountered errors before the requested operations for QuickTime could be completed."

Any ideas on how I can fix QuickTime please? I'd really like to watch these trailers!

Thanks,
Craig.

Ok, I managed to uninstall it, but I still can't get it to work.

When I start the main QuickTime program I can see it opening in the processes list, but it seems to crash or close itself after about a second.

Sorry I ain't got a fix for your problem but the .mov 1080p trailer for 300 works fine in vlc player.Could try installing that? :)

Yep, I've got VLC. Excellent video player.

I can't find the link to download the .mov - when I right click the link to the movie on the Apple website it just gives me some save as options which seems to only save the link to the file :(

EDIT

I found QuickTime Alternative - it seems like it's made by the same people that made Real Alternative. It's pretty good so far :)

RealAlt is awesome, I might need to get QTAlt as quicktime doesn't seem to want to play .mov's on my HDD anymore. :/

Yeah, I've been using Real Alternative for a while now, I never realised there was a QuickTime Alternative!

Thanks for the help & suggestions everyone.

EDIT

Those trailers were worth all the trouble that I went through with QuickTime 7! I want to see 300 in HD now! The screen & sound better be good at the cinema :p
