Quiet 24 port switch, cheap as possible. 1 gb. Poe would be great (or id have to put 3 unifi adapters on).

Currently got procurve but its a bit noisy....

Dont need managed its only to poweer the tvs aps and cams.

Thanks

Disconnect/replace the fan and carefully monitor the temperature for a while?

If it's somewhere with decent airflow and isn't too heavily loaded (unlikely in a domestic environment) it'll probably be fine.

+1

If you're handy with a soldering iron, you could add a resistor to the fan's power wire.

I do this with most of my Cisco kit at home.

Don't forget, most of this corporate kit is spec'd to run in cramped wiring cupboards with no airflow. We have a switch at work in a tiny cabinet in a warm room which runs at 50ºc in the summer, yet has 5 years uptime.

As above, I just took the lid of my switch, measures the fan(s) and replaced them with decent quality ones from OCUK that had the lowest dB ratings I could find given their size.

To a point though it's not the heat unless it's stupidly hot, it's sudden and frequent changes in temperature that kills equipment. I run a basic Netgear JGS524, whilst a simple unmanaged switch its run in the loft for around 8 years now with the fan disconnected.

Although not a gigabit switch I have a Netgear FSM726 which had a similarly loud fan unit. I opened the box up and unplugged it and presto. A silent switch for my lab and it's been fanless for at least a year now although it's not in a cramped space but it only cost me a £5r anyway so no big issues if it dies a death.
