Quiet 4870

Hi Guys..

looking at getting an ATI4870 but just wondered which one is the quietest.

I've looked at the 1gb version (Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4870 1024MB GDDR5 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail) but being quiet is the main thing for me as to which I buy.

I have the Powercolour 1GB and it's quiet in 2D. Can't comment on 3D as I have it set to 30% manually. You can always set it to 20% that way it'll be silent all the time

have a look at the buyers guide in my sig

it looks to me that if you are buying a card based on the reference design then you will have the same stock cooler used on all reference models

for a quieter - one - either consider a 3rd party cooler or one with a non reference cooler as standard if you care about warranty

mines fine when being used, its a bit louder but not much.

however if you crank it up manually past 40% its like a jet

If your after quiet, then this one should be :- 4870 PCS Extreme, theres also an Asus Dark Knight one coming out which is supposedly very quiet to.

Reviews have stated the PCS version is noisy Its about the same as the stock cooler under load - but it doesn't really go quiet when idle. Temps are way, way down though.

Hi, I have a 1gb HD4870, I play Crysis at 1920x1200 with all settings at very high. I do not hear the fan at all, I only hear that when I first start up my PC. Who would over the sound anyway?
