Ok with all the upgrades I have made latley, I realise that my case is getting to the end of its life. So come December I want to buy a new case. So I need everyone's help to choose. I am looking for a case that is going to be quiet, something with soundproofing would help. My budget is 180 and I am not picky about brands. Any suggestions?

If you need a large case, I was also going to suggest the Fractal Define XL as it's well within your budget.

Here's a couple of vids (second vid shows the case with mobo etc fitted @ 6:07).

Although they don't appear to mention it in the vids, I think the top HDD bay is removable / rotatable.

I dont think we will know until the end of the month, case is already more than 1 month past its eta here at ocuk and another deadline was missed a few days ago at a competitor. :(

You after one too? :D
Ive been after one for a month now, competitor had !ONE! in stock but couldn't "find" it in the stock when they came to picking it then send it on to me :(!

Gutted, looks so nice and shiny too :(

Fractal Design R2/R3 are silent, even full of the fractal fans. Built in one recently and every time i turn it on i have to double check - seriously and the dust filters are great as is the airflow / cooling.

The XL will only be better, love fractal.

was gonna mention the above case of Fractual.... nice and silent even with all those fans, my Q6600s always use to be 50c idle now there like 43-44c the coolings awesome and silent. Ive got an R2 and its nice and silent and unlike the lian lis and other cases, has complete solid steel design and no bendy flimsy panels. Steels better to dampen noise, fractual goes one step better with noise dampening material.

The XL is my next case if it ever comes in stock !.... need all those hdd bays and proper space, can just tell its gonna be even more silent and better :)

A review of the Fractal Design XL came out today (I can't post it here due to the site advertising competitors, so just do a Google search). The case came across as disappointing in the review. Apparently sound escapes more easily than in the R3 model, and the cooling performance is lackluster.

hhmmmmm yeah, it did come across as dissapointing :(

I would have liked to see them test with the extra fans + upgraded fans + top hdd cage removed. Silverstone make a good 180mm fan and lots of good 140mm fans around that shift air well and still quiet.

Im hoping other reviews do this, or i might have to change my mind about this case

Fair point. I'd like this case to turn out to be really good as I'm currently searching for a new one. I really want to get the Silverstone FT02, but at £200, it's quite a pricey one. And I want to see a review of the new Lian Li PC-V1020 case, although I bet this will be expensive as well.

yeah the review doesnt put it in a good light at all not something you wanna hear when you been waiting weeks for the pre order to show now in stock :(

They said it didnt have better temps/cooling then the R3 and the noise is slightly more....

Id guess its the same issue with most larger cases where the airflow doesnt quite reach the parts and thus not cooling it as well ?

Im surprised that 180mm fan on the top is not as powerful and apparantly more whinney perhaps they skimped quality on this.

Only good thing they mention is that the gpu cooling it better in this case.

Im wondering if like above mentioned if replacing that 180mm fan and perhaps the 140mm fans and adding a side 140mm fan to assist the gpu/cpu cooling may help out.

Either way that review may just be subject to there own ideas, they did add a more louder gpu in it and then replaced with a more silent one.... everything is subject to different testing so may wait for more reviews.

My R2 is very quiet, I'd guess the R3 is the same.

If I had the cash I'd look at the RV02 or the FT02 as well, those are awesome looking cases.
