Hi im looking for the quietest fan for my intel core duo PC, atm i believe i have an artic cooler 7 but its really loud, i am just looking for something whisper quiet. Is there anything out there that can do the job?

I have an akasa freedom tower in my core 2 duo which i upgraded from an arctic freezer 7, im running 2 case fans, 1 intake and 1 exhaust and sometimes i have to look at my power light on my pc to make sure its still on its so quiet.

How much do you have to spend?

Are you overclocking?

Maybe a Prolimatech Megahalems with a Akasa Apache fitted and controlled by PWM? Or maybe a dual radiator model such as the Noctua DH-14 or the Thermalright Silver arrow if it'll clear your RAM.

I just want a fan only, that fits onto a "Arctic Cooling Freezer 7". Price i will go upto £30 but just a simple fan at the lowest db.

Im not at home atm, but i see your point. The PSU is good quality and i dont think its that and gfx is a geforce 7900 (dno how loud it is). But when i which my pc on it sounds like a jet engine and im pretty sure its the 92mm fan (think thats the size).

So what fans am i looking at that can do the job?

Another 92mm fan basically, which won't be particularly quiet. I suppose swapping it for a slower 92mm fan, might lower noise a bit but would have an effect on temperatures.

You might want to look into why the fan is noisy. Typically in an idle enviornment your cpu fan wont need to be spinning at max speed and can be throttled down by your motherboard's PWM controller.

You should also check it though. Reach in with your finger and stop the fan from spinning and see if the noise stops.

I'm not sure if you can strap a 120mm fan to the arctic heatsink as this may waste a great deal of the airflow around the edges.

Turns out its the PSU thats the loudest, will take a look for a quiet one, got any suggestions?

Edit - I am thinking of something like this

Akasa PaxPower 500W Ultra Quiet Power Supply
