Ok guys after a recent huge upgrade from an old q9300 to Intel Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz (Devil's Canyon) ooof what an upgrade HOWEVER,

I have a few old PC's that im thinking of upgrading my little old synoligy by using these older but faster than the synoligy to a HTPC/server not sure but if i want to do anything with it, it NEED to be quiet !

So the parts i have goes as follows Asus P5QL - Intel q9300 2.5ghz 8G DDR2 Ram 888mhz lolz :P Nvidia 800GT and AMD 5770 rather not use either of these because of the noise of them. 120 ssd OCZ Vertex 2. Quite a few different Sata Drives.

choice 2 cases, so really i would be looking at Gpu, CPU cooler socket LGA775. Maaybe a quiet PSU not sure on that one. the 2 i have are 500w anyway's probably 2 much power for what it needs,. If i hook this machine to a TV it will be a 1080 50" plasma.

This is a bit of a fun project for me so don't really want to throw any big bucks at this guys,

Shoot some ideas please

Thanks

maybe have some free fun with it? :)
underclock that cpu see how cool you can make it
rip the fan off the 5770 stick a 12cm one on it

the parts seem pretty ok for htpc!
you still might need spend a little on better cpu cooler if its stock to make it silent but yeh

Yeah I never over clocked the chip but I don't have the stock cooler neither your maybes right see how quite I can make it then buy parts if needed. Don't think I will fry the GPU taking the coolers off? Lol

don't take the heatsink off just the annoying fan
they normally just screwed in on top
should run cooler with any other fan strapped to it so I doubt it fry no :)
I did it with an old 6770 I think and seen it done to many other cards

I think a 5770 is still pretty ok! for a htpc anyway
