my current psu is currently the noisiest thing in my pc, after making the gfx card and hdd's quiet the psu is now needing made quiet. It is for a htpc and its in my living room so needs to be really quiet.

currently i have this installed CHANNEL WELL TECHNOLOGY CWT-450BDP - 450W 120MM QUITE POWER SUPPLY

can you please recommend me a psu that would be really quiet for my needs. Pc spec below

SILVERSTONE LC17 CASE
GIGABYTE GA-8IPE 1000 PRO G MOTHERBOARD
PENTIUM 4 3GHZ CPU
OCZ PC4400 1GB RAM
1 x 160gb sata hdd
1 x 250gb sata hdd
LEADTEK WINFAST GEFORCE 6800 LE
2 x 16x dvd rw drives

I was using a Seasonic S12 but my new motherboard is not compatible so Ive changed to a Seasonic M12 Modular 600W, so far Ive been well chuffed with it and I can not hear it at all. Although as I’m still re-building my HTPC I have not had a chance to leave it running for any extended period of time.
I do not know how it compares to other PSUs but its loads quieter than the Antec True power in my main rig.
You could always try a fan less one such as the Nesteq Nova or one from Silverstone.

thanks for the replies guys, should have mentioned i dont want to spend too much probably around 50-60 quid, not sure if i wll get what im looking for for this money.

the cheapest seasonic s12 is 52 quid fr a 430w model. would this be enough power for me, i have no upgrades planned for the future as yet.

I'm not sure of UK pricing but you may want to take a look at the Corsair HX520. If it's over your budget, keep in mind it has a 5 year warranty so you should be solid for several years.

Corsair HX520

I have no idea what the OCUK price is but I would think it competitive with most of the suggestions in this thread.

EDIT: Found a OCUK LINK

Regardless of what brand you choose, keep in mind that an underpowered or poorly made PSU can actually damage your components over time. Buy wisely.

The seasonic is perfect for what you want, I paid £41 for mine a while ago and it has been brilliant. Even with the fastest fan in my system being an Akasa Amber @ 1000rpm and a vf-900 on the graphics it is still the quietest component.

It is rock solid powering 2gb ram, 2HD, Fancontrollers, DVDRW, Pentium D clocked to 3.7, 7800GT etc. so you still hav ea bit of room for upgrades.
