ok so my pc is becoming quieter by the day with a full wc loops etc etc and now the psu is the loudest part in it! currently using a 850 hx corsair for i7 2600k and crossfire 290's. Was wonder what the quietest psu is possible for this load as i know nada about psu's obviously want it to be efficient as well keep in mind they are overclocked so are drawing probably a bit more than normal

My RM PSU is 100% silent until pulling enough load. Not actually got it to that point though.

For the 850 unit quoted above:

I tried a fanless seasonic and although it was clearly fanless I did notice ' electrical' noises...

Don't really have a budget. And my pc is under load quite a lot hence the hx being noisy. Was wondering if a higher wattage psu would be better as using less load

Corsair ax760 would get my vote. It goes all the way up to 70% load without needing to turn its fan on at all so as long as your pulling less than 530w ish it is essentially passive.

yeah but roughly i would say i am drawing about 700-800 from it usually (for a reasonably old psu it's actually taking the beating quite well)

Have a look at the Superflower PSU's. Can't link to one as I keep getting an error.

**The above psu is 200mm long so you would need to see if it would fit in your case first**

The only thing I can add, is I own 3 Seasonic Gold PSU's, couple of 650X's and a 1050X. They are effectively passive as the fans never spin, at least there is never any dust on the PSU fan filters and I've never hear any of the PSU's - like you I have very quite computer rigs (all 3 of them).

The only thing is all my rigs run low power / or on board graphics, all my Seasonic Golds are at least 2-3 times the wattage required for the computer. What the PSU's are like when running near limit I don't know, but according to JonnyGuru reviews the Golds stay pritty quite even when loaded. Not sure if that helps you much but at worst the fans will only spin when your graphics cards are under load.

Slightly off topic but when it comes to an AMD setup, is it harder to make a quieter rig because of the extra power required to run it against the more power efficient Intel offerings?

it all depends how quiet you want your rig at the end of the day. I like silence i am currently trying to figure out how to silence my d5 pumps which other people say are whisper quiet.
