So I'm now on my 3rd brand new Corsair RMi 1000 watt PSU and each time it sounds like a box of crickets, Quiet but once I notice it, It's hard to unnotice it.

So, Are there any PSU's out there that are guaranteed to be silent ?

My evga allows to operate with the fan off. Will turn on if required, but never needed, as it hasn't been pushed nowhere close to its capacity, and airflow is good.

Dunno about guaranteed to be silent but I've been pretty happy with the Seasonic PSUs I've used that have Hybrid Fan Control and Sanyo Denki fans - they can usually run passive upto around 200-300 watt which covers most desktop activity and if the fan does spin up it is generally very hard to detect.

I feel your pain, I bought a AX850i last week (to replace a very nice 5-year old Corsair 760 series) as I couldnt swallow paying £250 for the Seasonic Platty and it (the 850i) has the most awful coil whine. It is going back whilst i undergo therapy required to stump up £250 for a medium-output PSU.

My seasonic supplies are the dogs danglies - Quiet (silent under normal load as 0 rpm fan thingy) and super quiet even under load. I have an 750 & 850 platinum prime ones and also an 860 Platinum Plus all of them are awesome.

As they say nothing guaranteed but death and taxes!

But Seasonic are usually OK.
Fair enough, there has been criticism from some (justifiable if you get a dud PSU) of the fans used in some of the later models. But I've got one of the latest Seasonic Prime Ultra Titanium 850w PSU's. And even when the fans running, I can't hear it, even with the case side panel off. Plus as others have mentioned, it runs in hybrid fan mode (unless you override this), so at low to medium power draw, the fan doesn't spin anyway. And no coil whine of any description. Quiet as a church mouse.

But like most PC components, it's luck of the draw I suppose.

Good luck.

Recently bought a new PSU (Seasonic Focus Plus Gold 750w), and I'm very happy with that. In fact, that and the previous one, a be quiet! 650w, have both been very quiet and efficient.
