Hi all, It's my birthday soon so am looking to get the wife to buy me a new PSU (Yes romance is alive and well in this house!):D.

I'm looking for suggestions of a 650W modular or semi modular and the most important criteria is that it is QUIET, ideally with a temp controlled 120 or above fan. Budget is anything under £100 so I'm guessing fanless isn't really an option.

While we are at it does anyone have any recommendations for a quiet SFX psu of somewhere around 300w? The CIT POS I have in my SFF machine could also really do with a swap.

Thanks

Hi,

I've just bought an EVGA 750W G2 supply, I too was concerned about noise. I've had it in about a week now, and not heard the fan kick in once (even when gaming).

As for an SFX supply, I've just ordered a Silverstone 300w one, this is supposed to have a fanless mode too upto about 50°C or 40% load. It won't be coming next week, but will update this when it's in so I can let you know what it's like - although it's only powering a low power ITX system, so if your SFF machine is more powerful it may vary.

Just got the EVGA 750W G2 as well. Ultra quiet, zero coil whine issues and fully modular. The cables are also a good length. OCUK have it for about £95 and there's also a 650W version available as well for around £75.

I can't recommend an SFX unit as I don't have any experience with them though.

How long have you had the CiT POS? My dad had one and I had to force him to replace it after 6 months when it started buzzing/whining and smelling strongly. Admittedly it came free with his £20 beige case...

EDIT: just saw your location - I'm from Wallington too!

Thanks both, looks like EVGA is the way to go then

TBH the CIT has done ok for about 5 years and after I opened it and gave it a good clean it's actually pretty quiet until it gets too hot. But I still don't trust it!

Wallington eh? Small world. You tried out the new PC shop by the green? they're actually very helpful.
