Hey all,

At the moment I have a Lian Li V2000 with Akasa Amber 120mm at the front and back, a Zalman 9500 on the CPU, an OCUK 7900GS (the one with the big heatsink and quiet fan) and a Seasonic M12 PSU. The Lian Li also comes with a top side exhaust fan for above the GFX card which isn't currently connected but I would like it to be.

My motherboard only has 2 fan headers and they are currently connected to the Zalman and the exhaust fan.

I am looking to make the system a little quieter fan wise as it is still quite noisy. Just need to know which options are recommended?

I was thinking of getting some Nexus fans to replace the ambers for a start, would this be enough or do you think a 7v mod would help too?

Otherwise is there a good fan controller you could recommend to connect them all too instead? Preferably easy to use and adjust, do any come with the ability to set profiles? Ie. One fan profile for CPU intensive use (gaming etc) so it spins them up and then another selectable profile for browsing, downloading etc. when the fan speeds can be lower and quieter?

Maybe you have a similar setup as mine or at least the case and can recommend some fans or how to set them all up? Just want a bit of quiet in my room :)

Thanks in advance

Russ

I can highly recommend a sunbeam rheobus fan controller. Not expensive and can take more than 1 fan on each of its 4 channels. Each channel can take up to 20w. Fans can be varied to any speed unlike some other cheap ones that just have 3 or 4 different stages

No point in 7v a nexus, there inaudible at full rpm if you wanna 7v then go for the yate loons which is a rebranded nexus with higher cfm not quite as quiet as the nexus at full but still very good. Will be better than the nexus at 7v though.

As for the fan controller, you can either get speedfan to adjust fan speeds automatically if it supports your mobo. A fan controller like the one suggested above will give you manual control but if you want auto then you'll have to get something like a mCubed T-Balancer, love mine hugely functionable and can actually stop fans altogether which is great when in windows providing you got some decent case fans.

Other way round, the Nexus is a rebranded Yate Loon running at 10v.

I have a 120mm silenx running at 600rpm (5V) connected to the case through rubber gromits. I cant hear it.
I would suggest maybe something similar. The rubber gromits get rid of the vibrartions that you can get when using conventional connections.

I think I will do it in steps. Get some Nexus fans to start with, then look at a fan controller (no point doing a 7v mod since a fan controller will have the same effect but not permanent)
