Hi all,

How loud are the GTX580 cards in general, and which is the quietest out of the lot? I'm always a bit dubious of "official" figures and reviews online (I was told that the 4890 wasn't really very loud before I bought mine and it's a jet engine at anything over 30% fan speed!).

Cheers!

Phantom would probably the a good one - plus they look great too!

I personally have an MSI Twin Frozr 470 and it's nice and quiet even when the card's under load.

The 580 here is also the cheapest on the OCUK site while it's on offer.

Might be worth waiting for other's opinions but I quite like them.

Cheers chaps, any more opinions welcome. I'm buying myself a new rig for Christmas and want it as quiet as possible. :)

I've got the MSI twin Frozr 580 and while it's not bad noise wise... when the fan goes over 60% you can start to hear it over all the other fans in my case. Though I do have a quiet case and in normal use (in a well vented case) it never really goes over 60% anyway. So much depends on your sensitivity to noise (one person will say some thing is quiet and another then promptly rebukes this and says it's noisy... sound is a VERY subjective / personal thing). Also depends so much on your case, placement and ambient temp. Even the ambient noise level can either make, or break whether something "sounds" noisy.

I would agree though that the Phantom, or one of the 580's with the triple fan (IE. Gigabyte, or KFA2) are probably the quietest.

Though to be totally honest, I don't think any of the 580's that I've personally heard, would I call them noisy. Even the standard / stock cooled cards are pretty good.

Good luck.

I had a Palit vanilla 580 (stock everything) and now I have an MSI Twin Frozr 580. The Twin Frozr is noticeably quieter. I can hear it when I'm gaming, but not enough to be noticeable unless I pay attention to it.

I had the Gigabyte SOC (855Mhz!) and it was incredible at full load - the temps didn't go over 70 degrees and was whisper quiet - I'd have bought another one but they're only 1.5G and I game at 2560x1600. If you're running lower res I'd be getting one in a MINUTE. Awesome.

Cheers chaps, I'll take a look at the Phantom as I don't fancy something that takes up half the case! :D

i have the msi twin forzr 2 580 and its slighlty loud under load but barely noticable when gaming.

i also have a pny 580 and that is loud under load...
