Quietest PSU?

the corsair's arent the quietest of course. there are quieter psu's but pound for pound they are the best psu's all round. the are the quietest 600w psu's ive ever used though. you wont hear one if you have a couple of case fans.

i have to agree about the corsair, just got mine yesterday and im really impressed with it, money well spent

I'd like to lodge a vote for the 500/600w heatpipe-assisted Zalman PSUs.

Quotes from good old jonnyguru to back that up, firstly the Corsair HX620w:

"Speaking of the fan, the fan was audible in the hot box by Test 2. The fan was noticeably audible (a little louder than what could be considered "quiet") during Test 3. Despite this, the fan spun back down as quickly as it spun up once the load was reduced. So in an actual PC, it's not very likely that this fan will spin up and stay spun up the way it did in the hot box, since I'm applying a static load and pumping essentially all of the heat generated by the load tester back into the case."

And then for the Zalman ZM600-HP:

"Surprisingly, the temperature of the exhaust of the power supply was actually cooler than the temperature in the case. This shows just how little air the ZM600-HP's 120MM fan moves. It is VERY quiet. It moves just enough to keep the PSU cool. Certainly you would not consider this PSU a key part of your entire chassis' thermal design. You definitely want a rear exhaust fan in your case underneath this power supply."

Both quotes are in reference to his 'hot box' test. So while I would agree the Corsair is a superior power supply taking everything as a whole, if quietness is of supreme importance to you, the Zalman would win.

The quietest ive ever had, again, the corsair. I used to have a hiper triple fan silent jobbie, but that was louder than the corsair.

I'd love for them to produce decent fanless ones, other stuff like graphics card and CPU can be cooled fairly well by fanless design these days.

I have an adjustable Enermax PSU and when it's on its lowest setting it's inaudible but more often then not I feel better turning it up on occasion.,.
