Currently got a thermaltake p5 with a xfx 850w and it's loud as hell since it's open sided, anyhow currently looking for a really quiet psu, specs are i7 6700k and 1070 so the 850 is overkill anyhow I think, thanks in advance

Something semi passive with a high rating would be my suggest, simply because I have yet to see my PSU fan spin up apart from the boot check!

This is with a Corsair RM750x powering a 6600K at 4.6ghz and a 1070 at 2.1ghz, even when running the hardest synthetic benchmarks under full load on both I havn't seen the fan spin up and therefore its silent.

You will be pulling around 300w at the wall if overclocked so a good quality 550w psu would be more than enough. As the others have said you want one of the psu's that has a Hybrid fan mode so you are looking at the EVGA Supernova GS/GQ/G2/G3/P2/T2, Superflower Leadex Gold/Platinum/Titanium, XFX XTR which all have the semi-fanless mode activated by a switch on the casing so you can chose which mode you want to run in. The Corsair RMx, Fractal Design Newton R3 have a automatic semi-fanless mode.

Another psu worth considering although it doesn't have a semi-fanless mode is the Bitfenix Whisper M series. They were only launched recently and have been getting very good reviews. They seem to be very quiet going by the reviews and are reasonable priced.

As above Superflower Leadex Gold 550W should do the trick, crazy how prices have shot up that goes for most things atm!

It has a switch which you can set to auto or eco, either way you shouldn't hear the fan spinning and under load it will only be minimal.

None of Seasonic X PSU's fans spin for regular wattage usage, they are dead silent. When I say dead silent there is more noise putting your ear next to a Rolex Oyster watch than a Seasonic X in regular desktop usage. I do have however some Silverstone FT02 cases that have excellent airflow, plus they have dedicated air-intake for the PSU. I expect if the Seasonic X was in a case with poor airflow then it's fan may come on sooner.

They do however start to spin once the wattage comes up, but its like a gentle spin just to get air moving. I had a X650 where the fan started to turn using a AMD R9 290 playing games, however the noise from the graphics cards, case, CPU fans was far above what the noise the X650 was producing even then.

Corsair RMi line. Very similar to the RMx model mentioned by others but has a quieter fluid dynamic bearing based fan compared to the rifle bearing in the RMx and ball bearing based fan in the evga G2 / P2 models, combined with its shallow fan profile means it's silent for all intents and purposes. I saw EVGA's new G3 platform is moving to a form of fluid dynamic fans now also so am sure the Superflower platform it's based on is also similar.

Your PSU is overkill though, a 550w unit would run that without braking a sweat. I expect for typical loads you will be around 350 watt mark overclocked for normal use mid 400's for stress tests when overclocked.

Some of Bequiets psu's have been very poor in the past and some have had weak 12v rails. Even the majority of the latest ones are nothing to shout about and I doubt if that will change while they stick with FSP as their oem. They also tend to be overpriced which is why they are rarely recommended on here.
