A couple of problems prevent me from getting the coolers I'd like:

- Budget is about £20 so the ThermalRight SI-120 is out of the picture.
- I'm using a Silverstone LC13 case (http://www.silverstonetek.com/products-lc13.htm) which is ever-so-slightly too small for the Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro which would be my next choice.

So, bearing in mind that noise is more important than cooling (no overclocking in this PC) I reckon my choices are the following:

Zalman CNPS7000B - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Zalman_121.html
Thermaltake Blue Orb II - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_ThermalTake_18.html
Thermaltake Big Typhoon - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_ThermalTake_18.html

The Zalman 7000 is supposedly quieter than the 7700 and saves me a few quid.
The Big Typhoon seems good but needs to be significantly quieter than the other 2 to warrant the extra expense. Furthermore, the Thermaltake fans don't seem to get the best write-ups, but first-hand experience is what I'm after.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

The big typhoon is very quiet, silent PC rated it well against the nexus fan. Although my choice would be the blue orb II and 7volt it or use a fan controller as you have a low profile case

I seem to be finding conflicting reports on the height of the Typhoon (height being the issue in my case) but the most commonly quoted figure is 103mm - if anyone has one, could they check the documentation that comes with it to check? Thanks.

So, Raikiri, the Blue Orb is a better bet than the Zalman 7000 in your opinion? I can't find any decent reviews of the Blue Orb, at least none that give any convincing reports on how much noise comes out of it. It doesn't seem to have much of a following on these boards either.

I have a Big Typhoon in my case and I would say height wise about 13cm including the large 120mm fan on top. The cooling on this thing is excellent though, I idle at 35c - 36c when the room temperature is not too high... :) It fits in my standard Midi-Tower.

Nuts, 13cm is too tall.

I checked the Themaltake site and it says 103mm and yet a couple of the reviews and your good self reckon 130-ish, the plot thickens...

Maybe I should play safe and stick with one of the low coolers.

OK, if this makes your decision any easier... my midi-tower case width dimension is about 20cm (200mm) and a Thermaltake Big Typhoon fits easily with plenty of space still. :) The silverstone is 163mm in height... hmm depending on how high the mainboard sits, it might be tight... but I've no experience of those cases.

My case is only 163mm high.

I tried to fit the Arctic Cooler Freezer in it without success and that's less than 130mm high so if the Typhoon is genuinely this tall, it's out of the question.

Thanks anyway.

It's worth taking a look at some of the more standard non-tower type coolers. :) I'm sure they'll be more than adequate as well and at a lower price.
