Ok bought the daughter (as requested) a Xbox for Christmas and was wondering do you get a months free xbox live with it? Just to get her up and running over the holidays

You used to get 1 month free gold when you create a new account. I think it still works as according to xbox live website it states "*1 month trial of Xbox LIVE Gold applies to new Xbox 360 console owners only."

If you use an email for the log-in that has been used for games for windows LIVE! (not games for windows) where you earn xbox achievements, then you will not get your 1 month free but you games and gamerscore will be fully linked.
