I just logged into my second router which stays on 24/7 and runs ddWRT, used that to send a magic packet to my PC, which is a bit power hungry to remain on. Then ssh'd in to the sshd running on the PC under cygwin, then used that to start Orb, which is a media server with a pretty decent web interface. So now I'm streaming all my media 300 miles to my eee up in the lakes.

Anyone got anything to top that?

Right, enough stunt piloting, I'm off to watch some futurama.

Same thing, except I sent the magic packet directly from my mobile to power on my webserver and used Media Player on my mobile to watch a couple of TV programs I'd recorded and re-encoded for low res/bitrate.... oh the power of HSDPA!

why did you ssh and not just vnc or rdp ? or as well as a vpn ?

WHAT! Use a GUI!? Pah!!

One router serves wireless and 5 unique public IP addresses from my /29 subnet. The other serves up wireless and non route-able IP addresses using NAT. It just happens to run ddWRT so it's good for basic server duties, such as an ssh based proxy server.
