OK I now have a Q6600 GO. As you can imagine she runs pretty cool being the go at about 28-32 degrees C on basic applications. This is with this setup:

Thermeralight heatsink and fan 120mm on cpu
Antec 900 Ultimate gaming case with a 200mm top exhaust fan, 2 X 120mm fronts drawing in and a 120mm exhuast fan at back.
Shes has a Corsair 5200w PSU with the fan on that.

How can I get her to run quiter (silent if possible) Is it best to look into water cooling? Can I buy a fan controller to get the fans to spin even slower when ideling? I dont mind how loud it is under load, just idel when its on when im in bed? Best too look into watter cooling? Which fan is making the most noise? As il never be able to get rid of the one in the PSU will I? The current fans I can only adjust low, medium , high. I always have them on low

Cheers

Sheldon

maybe put them all on high, and put them on low at night, that way, you'll slowly get used to the volume, and it wont annoy as much! lol

i usually sleep with my ipod on anyway, helps me get the sleep, and my earphones stay in most of the night which keeps me asleep. honestly though, go watercooling if you want silent

lol. Its because I like to download updates at night etc.... Yes I know this is mad and very sad, but I have a very very slow connection as live in the sticks

Is water cooling silent? becasue you still have fans on the rads? Do they not spin unless coolant gets too hot? how can they be silent?

That makes sense.

Some of the nicest people I know do exactly the same.

Water cooling is kind of expensive and if you go cheap not necessarily that quiet.

Try a Fan controller. Simply knock the speed down overnight.

The Corsair should be quiet. It’s the quietest fan on my PC and it’s a quiet PC.

to be fair I leave it on most nights too, and its frigin blue and loud! I know how you feel, turning the fans down low doesnt really help, its still loud when your laid in bed and everything else is silent! My girlfriend usually makes me turn it off. Im not too sure about water cooling, I'm sure you could get it to be pretty quiet. would be nicer if you could make Antec tricool fans quadcool fans (an off position switch!!!)

Yeah its the mrs that complains as my PC in our bedroom (the **** one is in the study) but mine in my room so I can play games while she whatches TV in bed. So I can get a fan conrolers and plug my fans into it? as the only cables coming out of them is the power one and the one with he adjustment block on, does the fan controler do it off the power cables?

Well, if its basicly just gonna idle at night, you can probably get away with the following (monitor temps initialy of course)

Disable top fan and one of the front fans.

replace the other two fans and CPU fan with the quietest you can find.(with noctua fans maybe?)

replace all fan and HDD mounts with rubber screws/gromets.

If you have more than 1 hard drive, leave the other drives unplugged unless being used.

That should make a good difference in noise, and much cheaper than water cooling, so worth a try before you invest any real money.

I think you can get Fan Controllers which allow you to switch fans off as well as alter the speed/throughput.

The fans you leave on overnight, the minimum, change for quiet units as suggested, and switch the others off through the Fan Controller.

If you are that way inclined you could knock something up yourself but a pre-made unit may be neater and somewhat easier if not the cheapest option.
