i have been with them sine may 2005, and it looks like i can get a better deal, is it easy to quit a BB company or is it like a mobile thing where you have to give a month notice in writing? i can't find any of my paperwork!!

It should be as simple as ringing them and telling them. Some places require more than one month's notice though if you've finished your initial contract period, this shouldn't be a problem.

What you'll want to do to quit is request your "MAC code" - this code allows you to migrate to another ISP without a break in your service (as quitting Wannadoo and then getting another service activated will leave you without inet for 2+ weeks (referred to as a 'cease and reprovide')).

One thing to be careful of: I'm sure Wannadoo run some LLU services - do you know if you're on their LLU network? If you are, you may have to go for a cease and reprovide as LLU MAC codes traditionally don't exist. There's been a recent trial and some ISPs will now give you an LLU MAC but the system is far more unreliable than with non-LLU (IPStream).

As well as costing you another £50 (or potentially tying you to the new ISP for years).

ok thanks guys, i will give them a bell later on, just need to find my bits and bobs!

i wonder if they offer you better deals to stay with them, like mobile compaines :p

Good point ;) I've not lived in one house long enough to actually want to migrate for some time...easy to forget these things.

ok

1. Call wanadoo ask to quit and for my MAC code
2. Find new ISP and give them the MAC code
3. away we go!

that easy?

Yeah, just ring Wannadoo and ask them for your MAC code. They might take a little while to get it to you.

Once you have it, ring up the other provider (or better imo, use their website) and sign up and MAKE SURE you give them the correct MAC code - mistakes here can screw things up a lot.

What you may want to do then is cancel your direct debit or whatever to Wannadoo - lots of ISPs 'forget' to stop charging you and it's a lot of hassle to get the money back.

Don't ask to quit, just ask for the MAC. Some folks will misconstrue asking to "quit/cancel/leave", and you'll wind up with no connection and either no MAC, or an invalid one.
