Anyone else keep getting forum alerts that people have quoted you, then when you click the alert they've quoted someone else?

Is it possible that I'm being trolled by some hilarious ninja edit bandits or do I have a bug.

I don't understand why reading (scrolling past/visiting the page) the post that's quoted you doesn't automatically remove that notification for it? It seems you have to actively click through the notification to the quoted message for it to disappear.
Is it because of the 100 posts per page people who would likely miss the quote?
