I have highlighted the bit wich I think is weired. The model says that it is 2.66Ghz but the speed beneath it says 1.87Ghz.

Also when I run the arithmatic benchmark the results are comparable to a Q6300 @ 1.86Ghz.

I am sure that this cannot be right, does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

Surely the CPU would not be idle when it is being benchmarked would it?

I just ran it through Orthos here is the result:

1866MHz FSB: 266MHz [266MHz x 7.0 est.]

only extreme chips are mutli unlocked.....

like the QX6700 etc, not the Q6600.

some mobo's you can lower the mutli on locked cpu's but not higher it.

You say in the bios its "read only", you may have to change a setting to enable it to be changed......it may be on auto.

The cpu is the QX6700

He is using the QX6700

No mate, the QX6700 are designed to run at 10x multi.
Since its the Extreme models, your multi is unlocked in both directions (both up and down).

It should have been set to 10x anyway, regardless of speedstep (surely?)

What motherboard are you using?

The MB is EVGA 680i.

I have just seen on their website that my bios is about five revisions behind their current one. I guess I might have to flash to it.

Don't really want too though :(

Thanks for all your help.

THe problem has now been fixed.

I just selected load defaults from the bios menu, and I know get 2.66GHz.

Still don't seem to be able to update the bios though, hmmm.

You can update the EVGA 680i bios by downloading a tool called Nvidia system update...make sure it is the lastest version though. Then download the bios files (.bin type) and run them using the system update program.

edit: you can download the program and bios files here

Thanks M8

But I have already tried that, it said there was a incompatanility with my Bios version number.
