I have been offered a 2nd hand QX6700 for £100 but apart from not been limited on the multiplier, these chips don;t run cool and don;t even overclock better than a Q6600.

SHould I buy it?

check their going price on that auction site first. if its goes for considerbly more, then buy it, test it if its good keep it if not, sell it for a profit get q6600

Hmm they sell fro £200 to £240 so worth a punt.

Is it true about the heat and they don't overclock very well?

I reckon it will be a quick in out sale.

It depends on the specific stepping. If its an early B3 stepping it may be pretty poor at overclocking. If its one of the last QX6700's it will be a G0 stepping which would match or better any decent Q6600 G0 stepping.

The fact all the guy wants for it is £100 says a lot, so it maybe an early QX.
Regardless I think it would be a good idea to by it anyway and see how it runs and then decide whether to keep or sell. it pretty much win win either way :)

Did they sell QX6700 G0s? I thought the retail Extreme G0s were only ever sold as QX6850s.

Hmm, there were a few G0 QX6700's but maybe never any retail ones.

I guess its safe to say it will be a B3 stepping then, as G0's are rare as anything.

I've checked and it's a B3 stepping so not a good overclocker.

Still worth buying to sell on and then get a Q6600 G0?

according to cpu-z my qz6700 has a stepping of 7 and revision b3, what does this exactly mean? also cpu-z reckons it has a core voltage of 1.28 - 1.296v, is this right or too high? it's at stock speed thanks
