QX6700 under load temperatures ?

I second that. I bought a Tuniq Tower to see if it was much better than the Zalman 9500. I sent it back after the thumbscrew fell to bits in my hand. A near 1kg heatsink hanging over an expensive graphics card with dodgy thumbscrews just wasn't my idea of fun. The lapping on it is terrible too, while you can see your face reflected by the Zalman. Zalman have just bought out a bigger 9700 cooler which must be about on par with the Tuniq Tower for overall cooling without the hassle.

The screws on your TT fell apart as well ? that happened to mine as well ! :( I ended up going B n Q get me some standard screws and bolting it on manually to my opty, as tight as I dare to do it, seems there screws are bloomin rubbish, NOT good

On the + side manually bolting it on has ment I can get it much tighter so its like 27 idle, 40 load on opteron at 2.7ghz :D

I found my QX6700 ran very hot. At 2.93 the cores idles between 44 and 50. Running Orthos on just 2 cores would cause it to go over 80, and on the cores not been used hit 60.

I have since bought my mates X6800 from him (he took my quad), and so far 5 hours stable in Orthos and max temp in a very hot room is 54. I don't think I could have got near those temps on air with my quad unless it was close to the limit.

What happened to the thumb screws then? Did they just snap in the middle of the thread?

Not had a problem with mine, and mine's pretty tight

Same here. I have installed this cooler 3 times, on the 3rd got the absolute tightest fit possible as I completely took the mobo out so I could get at all 4 sides freely. Wondering how they actually snapped. They seem pretty sturdy to me. Did you overtighten them or something ?

Nah it wasnt I over tightned it, it was like half screwed down and they fell apart in my hand, i like stuck my nail in the metal at the end and it deformed, really really soft metal alloy of some sort, obviously the idiots had'nt got the mix right, very dangerous thing, solid steel screws work fine obviously :D

The actual head of one of the thumbscrews came off in my hand. The screws are very low quality and are made of 2 components cheaply fixed together with what looks like a blob of solder.

Nope, you can't overtighten thumbscrews. Thats why they are thumb screws to avoid the risk of damage caused by clumsy use of a screwdriver. Either way the screw was still quite loose when the head fell off.

Just because yours looks fine now doesn't meen that the screws won't fall apart someday. :p

Yeah...right. Maybe you just got unlucky and got a dud. A few of my mates have this cooler and had no issue, all 4 of us have bought from OcUK, I have bought 2 myself. Maybe I am lucky :) Then again, maybe not and the heatspreader on my memory sticks might fall off some day as well.
