QX6700

Depends what you want it for? If you can make use of 4 cores go for it, if not wait until there is some tangible benefit to quad core by which time I'm sure there will be cheaper/better CPUs available.

I was just going to buy a system that I wouldn't have to upgrade anytime soon, it'l be used for everything realy.

And when apps start using 4 cores i wont have to upgrade because i'd have one :p

But I was thinking, if I bought the QX6700, 2 months later there will probably be a quad 4GHz for the same price out.

"Yorkfield" is a true quad-core, 45nm part coming late this year (/early next year). 1333FSB should be standard, as should 8MB shared cache - though I've also heard of 2*6MB isolated. Apparently its twinned with the upcoming "Bearlake" chipset.

Unless you intend to do masses of things at the same time, go for a e6700 save some dosh and basically pretend it's a quad core. ;)

I'd probably guess that most people here that have a QX do not use it's full potential.
