I want to do a cheap upgrade from my E6550 to either a Q6600 or QX6700 both i can get at the same price i know the Qx is ment to be better but the Q6600 is ment to run cooler and is newer or am i wrong in thinking this.

Slightly quicker at stock speeds and an unlocked multiplier (?) from what I gather.
yes will overclock to 3-3.2ghz no more than that but because of heat issues and i'm cooling on air i've noticed in other forum threads that the extream chips tend to be a bit toasty , i do a lot of HD video editing so need the quad over the dual core.
i would say get the q6600 then, even with the lack of good overclocking chips in the market, you should still be able to get at 3-3.2 GHz out of one and it will run cooler compared to the qx6700 which is more likely to be an older stepping that requires more power.
