QX6850 at 5.7 GHz in single core mode

pretty normal to clock so far in bios then a bit more in windows. You can get some large gains that way some times.

What can you do in windows that you cant do in the bios? Can you overclock it all from windows and is it any easyer?

posting and loading windows puts a fair amount of load on a system, you can clock so far safely in the bios, get it to the limits of what it will actually boot with, then push it a load more in windows with clockgen or whatever and put barely any load on it to get the highest cpu-z verification possible.

I've had an extra 4-500mhz when on phase, sub zero seems to hold clock speed better with very little of what you would call stability. I used to be able to get a screenshot out of my X2 3800 at 3.3ghz but it was a race to save the screenshot before it crashed.

hence the term suicide shot tbh

LOL have you seen the bored piolet sketch ? Thats so funny.
