Does anyone own one of these as i have been offered1 and was wondering what sort of clocks people were achieving. Or do u think i would be better getting a q9450 as its around the same price

Thanks for ure help ;)

just a guess but using normal air cooling such as a tuniq tower i say average will be 3.4-3.8 GHz with it being stable enough for everyday use, you may get higher using water or phase

the q9450 is faster then the qx6850 at the same stated speed, however the qx6850 does have an unlocked multiplier making it easier to OC ,

These are good chips but i would only get one if it was cheap, say £350. Mine does 3.7 on air and that is limited by temps. I could prob get it to 4Ghz+ on water.

mine will be on water and the same price as a q9450. These chips are the GO series arnt they ?

Yep

QX6850 will overclock as well as a decent G0 stepping Q6600, as Jak stated you have the advantage of it being multi unlocked. I still think 300+ is a heck of a lot to pay for a Kentfield quad, Q6600 G0 at half the price makes much more sense imo.

for £200, go for it.

if you dont like it sell it on, as your quite likely to get a good return for it

then get a new cpu

Yup water and your Maximus will easily get the most out of a Kentfield quad :)
If you can get it for 200quid I would grab it!

Idea: Sell it on for £350~ and grab a Q9550. I reckon with you motherboard you can get near as damn if 4GHz out of that Yorkie :)

Really? why spend another £200 on a chip that will at most net you 200MHz more than your old Q6600. TBH the multi wont help matters as it was never a limiting factor on the Q6600 in the 1st place, especially on a motherboard like the Maximus.

If you currently have no cpu then this QX seems like a good buy :)

think a QX is worth it for the unlocked multi tbh, should be able to get some nice clocks without stressing ** NB too much!

what you doing to use the rig for?

video encoding and gaming tbh. I Loved the q6600 i used to have and was great. thats also why im thinking the unlocked multi will be handy for overclocking
