Hey!

I was lucky enough to win a QX9650 processer at i33 and I had a couple of problems with installing it.

My hardware:

Gigabyte P35C-DS3R Rev1.1 @ f10 bios
2 gigs Giel
8800gts

Firstly my motherboard decided it didnt like it, just blank screen and graphics fan on full. Checked up on the bios and it was pretty out of date. Updating it fixed the whole situation.

So now it boots up into the bios and I set everything to defaults. When I get into windows it seems laggy opening firefox and moving windows. I try opening thermal analysis tool to check temps and clock rates but I get the following error:

Invalid Processor. Terminating tool.

After checking Orthos and My computer it appears that the frequency is running at about 250Mhz (:D Fast, I know)

After disabling a feature "CPU EIST Function" I was able to boot at 3Ghz and everything was snappy. But:

Intel Tat still doesnt want to work. Also when I run Orthos it still (same before fixing freq) only runs two threads. Checking the activity on the cores shows only 1+2 active.

Going into an CoD4 shows that all four cores are doing something, core 1 at like 70%, core 2 = 40, core three = 20 etc etc. I realise that it isnt optimised to run all four.

Running something like Superpi shows that that each of the cores doesnt reach 100% and that it finishes 1mb in 15s. Does this sound right?

Il have a quick look later tonight. Just posting up a thread to see if anyone has any expereince with this cpu and relativly old mobo.

thanks guys! :)

considering im gettin 14.5 for heavy oc, that sounds about right @ 3.0ghz for a 45nm

have you tried small fft's on prime 95?.. and if its using 100% on all cores?

Im just about to try the latest Prime95. Apparently it can load all four cores automatically. Will reply with results.

Edit: Small FFT's didnt stess all the cores to 100%.

Also Im not able to run orthos on each core by setting the "Affinity" in Task manager.

Guess I cant really stress test them all :s

mabye there are problems in the mobo/cpu and bios is glitched, but this is too advanced for me. id just reset cmos/flash bios/re-install xp- install vista. and see if it works out.

Thanks :) I was pretty lucky to win something nice and to be able to put it to use.

Anyways, I dont think TAT works for yorkfields so Im gonna use coretemp.

It reached 3.6ghz on stock volts.(1.2V) Load temps are 50 ish, idle 42.

Thats on a Swiftech storm. Got a D-tek Fuzion with nozzle here which is gonna be put in tomorrow.

Will post back with results :)

i heard Orthos needs multiple instances to work for Quads. Pretty sure that's an old version i was reading about though...

ps, Gratz on the win, you mush be chuffed...
