Hi, I'm new here, and I want to buy the QX9650

(Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme Edition QX9650 "LGA775 Yorkfield" 3.00GHz 1333FSB Stock Code: CP-183-IN)

I already have some DDR 3 Ram, and the new MSI X38 Diamond motherboard (MSI X38 Diamond X-Fi Intel X38 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard Stock Code: MB-087-MS)

However I have heard that the oem fan is a bit loud! so I want to buy a decent quite CPU fan for this, however I'm at a total loss as to which one...as it's a new cpu out, I'm worred I may buy one that won't keep it cool enough, but as I said I do want it to be quite...

I've see this one: Akasa AK-925 Revo CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940/AM2/LGA775 Stock Code: HS-045-AK)

and this one: Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme CPU Cooler (Socket AM2/LGA775 Stock Code: HS-039-TR)

But I'm kinda lost..

Thanks in advance for any help :)

Go for the Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme. :)

Will cool your QX9650 very well indeed. :)

I have read some info about problems with how it sits or something, and people having to sand it....I dont really want to be sanding it... or would I not need to do that? plus would it be quite?

Thx :)

You prolly would not need to to be honest.

As for the noise it would all depend on what fan(s) you used.

Sorry, I'm probably retarded, but what do you mean by what fan I used?

I meant should the Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme be quite as a CPU fan for the QX9650?

thanks again :D

You wack a fan onto the heatsink.

Im not sure how loud or good the stock fan that comes with it is as I dont own one.

It will definatly be quiter than the stock fan you get that comes with the CPU if thats what your asking...

I'm with you now, last question....does the Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme heatsink as shown above some with a fan aswell?

I appreciate all your help Azza :)

It doesnt seem so.

If I was you I would get two Yate Loon fans and use them in a push-pull configuration. One fan on the front and another on the back if your case is big enough to allow that. :)

Yate Loons are easily the best fans ever based on their price, performance and noise. :)

Thanks for all your help Azza

So I've gone for the following after all that:

(Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme Edition QX9650 "LGA775 Yorkfield" 3.00GHz 1333FSB Stock Code: CP-183-IN)

(MSI X38 Diamond X-Fi Intel X38 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard Stock Code: MB-087-MS)

Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler (Socket 478/754/939/940/AM2/LGA775) Stock Code: HS-001-SB.

And 2 x Corsair 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR3 1333MHz Memory CL9(9-9-9-24) DHX Heatsink so 4GB in total.

and I bet it still won't run crysis! ;)

Nope because you havnt chosen a graphics card. :p:D

I bought it a few months ago, using it in my current system I bought just over a year ago.

Gonna sell all the old parts on ebay, apart from my HD's and new graphics card of course :)

I also have a new sony tz laptop I've had for a few weeks..but don't use it, so gonna sell that also, which will help pay for my new system :)
