Hi all,

I have a QX9650 E1 stepping and am trying to get a good 4gig stable OC. My config is as follows:

QX9650. 4g at vcore 1.36. 11x364
Asus P5Q-e
OCZ 800 reaper mem
Super mega cooler

So far I can run:

45 mins with OCCT before an error is thrown max temp 62degs
Prime 1 hr no errors max temp 70degs

Q1: is the temperature too high given cooler quality, the cooler does move about a bit so maybe I could tighten a little and try repasting some thermal compound.
Q2: only a single 1000 silent eagle in pull so far, I have vipers for push pull on the way
Q3: what other options do I have for stability beyond tackling temperature? More vcore, although that pushes it outside the intel range
Q4: 400 fsb x 10 fails, how could I get this stable, more FSB volts?

Thanks in advance peep,

I've just upgraded from a similar set up which i ran @ 4.1 ghz 24/7 for the past 12 months. I used a p5q deluxe, but it should be fairly similar although mine was watercooled. My vcore i'm sure was higher, i'll have a look at my notes tommorow at work, but i was higher than the recommended and it gave no problems. Your temps will be the problem as when you increase the vcore the temp will increase and 70c is getting close to max for your chip if you want reliability. The key to my stability was vcore, memory voltage and memory timings. I could only get 4.1 by slackening the memory timings a bit. When i find my notes i will let you know.

That's guys.

The I am pretty sure i can bring the temperature down to 65 at full load with better fans arriving soon.

The main issue is that i would rather be running 10x400 than 11x365. 400 is just unstable, should i start increasing FSB volts?

I was thinking of reseating the heat sink a few times too to find out what is a typical value for it given variations in paste applications.

As things stand the machine is pretty stable so far a it has not crashed in 48 hours of use. I am fairly happy with the basic CPU overclock but now want to achieve a happy optimal for the other components.

For those that are interested, my fans turned up - quick test so far of the config. and looks good.

UP exhaust 1000 silent eagle
Rear exhaust inline 1900 Akasa viper << pull CPU 1900 akasa viper << push CPU 1900 akasa viper
Front inwards case 1000 silent eagle
All on a super mega cooler
