that is the question....
i,m looking at buying an evga gtx580 sc card anyways do i go for the full upgrade ? or is my system not worth upgrading at the the moment

thanks for any input

tbh i only use it for gaming at the moment ,but i aint upgraded much in about 2 years so really looking if its gona be worth upgrading everything,
and besides xmas money starting to burn a hole in me pocket:)

Sounds like in the same boat as me. Sandy will give us a nice bump in gaming however I would wait at least a week because there have been a few issues with chips blue screening because of memory and overclocking issues.

Have you Overclocked your QX9650? You Could try this to keep the CPU for a little longer...

I did this exact upgrade from qx9650 to 2500k. Only been able to try blackops so far and very pleased. From a stuttering performance on the old cpu its now silky smooth at 125fps constant on stock settings.

Having said this, how much is down to the cpu and how much down to blackops having problems is debatable.

There was an article published a while back with regards to how blackops scales with clock speed. It proved that the higher the clock the more FPS you got. So I would imagine that I would gain a few more fps @ +-4.6Ghz.

Never been a better time!

The i5 2500K with a high OC (4.4GHZ +) will destroy the QX9650.

TBH running 580 on a QX9650 should be ok but I wouldn't want to risk any bottle necks.

Your QX9650 will be fine TBH and I would try overclocking the processor a bit more as it has an unlocked multiplier.

OTH,you could look on the famous auction website and see how much your current CPU,RAM and motherboard will fetch.

Black Ops is poorly optimised and TBH the vast majority of people who play the game will not be even have a quad core IMHO.

If i was you i would wait for the highend 2011 socket to come out, as you know with the first batch there are always problems, also with the cpu you got already i dont see why you would need anymore power, as it has been mention a lot of time in this forumn and other that a lot of people are still using there dual core on blackop, and gaming maybe just relax for now and just keep that xmas money to one side and let it grown i will guarntee you that when 2011 come out it would be the best buck for money, that is what i am waiting for and you can see what i am pushing with my signature below. Regard the GPU you are talking about, the game should run well with the GPU since the game is more GPU intents that CPU, but at the end of the day this is my opinon.

if your system was a single core than i would recommend you that the boost would be a great thing to do but since you are more than a dual core i would just say wait.

Do it now while your current kit is worth a fair bit. A QX9650 will fetch a decent amount of dosh on the used market, as will decent DDR2 memory.

If you delay by 6 or 12 months then your current kit will be worth significantly less whilst the cost of the new gear is unlikely to change. You only have to look at chips like the i5-750 to see that the price has stayed fairly constant since launch.

This is why I've upgraded from my Q9650 - it's not so much that I needed to as this is the right time to jump. Total upgrade cost (cpu, mobo & memory) will come in under £200 which is a no brainer.

Forget about LGA2011 unless you really need one of the few benefits it provides or your e-peen really is that small :)

Very surprised by that comment. I wouldn't have thought that it would be 'destroyed', given that you see people with 4.5Ghz on air for Q9xxx quads. Is this mainly down to 2 generations of improvements in efficiency? (C2Q to i5/i7, then i5/i7 to sandy i5's).
