Hi,

Can someone answer some questions I have please?

- Max Vcore without void'ing warranty
- Max Temp
- Max Core Temp
- A better CPU cooler (don't mind spending £40)

Thanks,
Matt

1) What is says on the box
2) Doesnt matter, core temp is the important one
3) 65-70 Degrees
4) TR Ultra Extreme

:D

Cheers,
1) 1.25V according to my box.
2) ok
3) At stock, I'm getting 37/35/35/37. Running Prime95 I get 48/52/46/46 - I have seen temps of >58 Degrees though (when room is warmer!). Is this a bit hot?
4) Does this cooler beat things like the Zalman range? Also would I need a 120mm fan with a 4 pin adapter?

1) that's your stock voltage, which differs between chips. Your's isn't half bad. I'd like to see how they can check what voltage you ran at to void warranty lol, but safe zone is usually +10% of the stock voltage, or aslong as its <1.5v (though you can easily go higher with good cooling)
2) recommended max. temps for quads are usually 71C.
3) those temps look ok. Mine stock (not the same chip mind) got around 55C under prime i think, hard to judge that one, prime pushes chips beyond hot. Though the idle temps are perhaps not amazing, good would be low-30's, but not a problem.
4) Zalman>Thermalrite 120, post #26

99.9% of these forums swear by the thermalrite 120 and say its better than the zalman 9700 in everyway. Statistics as always to the rescue. But it's personal choice really, both are good (zalman looks hawt though :D)

I bet that wasn't a lapped TR Ultra Extreme ;). However both are great coolers :) . 58*C is fine on the cores. I wouldn't put more that 1.5v throught a Yorkfield/Wolfdale as there have been reports of this damaging the cpu.

i forgot to lap my Zalman and only did my CPU, and i think a lot of heatsinks are designed slightly convex due to the concave CPU's. Can't be bothered to take it apart for the 6th time in just over a week though lol.

Get in son, just got home, the Zalman thermal grease is bedding in already.

Now at 33C idle at the hottest core, which is 5-10C higher than the other cores @ 3.4ghz, 1.4750v.

Awesome thermal grease and heatsink as expected :)

mine idles at 40 degrees so I wouldn't worry too much about idle temps. I would worry more about load temps tbh try and stay in the low 60's if you can coz it will run even warmer come summer time.

update: have moved my graphics card to the bottom of the case, instead of being right next to the cpu and covering the PCI-e chip and southbridge etc....which were getting very toasty

Idle temps are: 35-32-33-35
Load temps are: 54-58-54-56

(load temps when running torture test blend in Prime95 30mins in)

Also what does "Tj. Max: 105C" mean in Core Temp?
