Hi i have just ordered a EVGA nForce 790i SLi *** Digital board for my qx9650.I allready have the striker extreme 2 nForce 790i Ultra SLi but its a nightmare getting above 4ghz on hit at lower than 1.45vcore.Im on me secound qx9650 here and surley they all cant be that bad to hit 4ghz under 1.45vcore,so i blame the striker extreme 2 nForce 790i Ultra SLi endless settings to no aviel.I hear the EVGA nForce 790i SLi *** Digital loves the quads and more the unlocked ones like mines with clean vcore straight to cpu no nosie or vdroop.I will recieve shipment tomorrow so wish me luck with my qx9650 on this EVGA nForce 790i SLi *** Digital .

Get the gtl ref# voltage right helps lower the vcore required (knocked over 0.05V off my vcore!)

Depends on bios as to how you set it, but with the 45nm quads, set all four lanes to:

-0.032*(fsb termination voltage (aka. pll voltage))

e.g my FSB term. is at 1.3V so gtl ref# = -0.0412V -> -40mV in bios (yes these are -ve numbers)

Should help with the vcore issue and as a result the temps.
I've had my q9450 up to 4Ghz @ 1.4V (windows) so you should really have no issue getting that chip far far higher than that witht the better multiplier

4ghz is a fairly average clock for the QX9650, any more than that is a bonus and could mean you have reached your chips limitation.

What are your full systems specs and what settings are you using now?

Heres my 3.6ghz stable settings.

I've not started "overclocking" my QX9650 yet (meaning manually). I just use the Cpu level up settings to "Crazy" mode, which is 3.5Ghz. Totally fine at that. I have a 780i StrikerII mind (npot 790), and a 1401 Bios update. Before the Bios update BTW, lots of games wouldn't work unless I disable the 2nd and 3rd cores.

I know it's nice to get 4 Gihz, but is it necessary?. I tried 1600x10, but it wouldn't boot. (voltatge was same as the 3.5GHz setting, on Auto, which was >1.34< i think).

Total newbie that i am to overclocking, i get a feeling the QX9650/780/790 boards deal better with Multiplier than FSB, but I know nothing reall:). Sorry can't be of help kullymontanna

Thanks for listing these settings, at first they didnt seem to work for me until I installed the mentioned bios 1202! All is working fine now! 3.6 is plenty for me so I am not going to push it anymore!
