R/C Hpi Rush help

Hi guys, My hpi Nitro Rush is tearing through the plastic large spur things. How do I stop this from happening? Im guessing the mesh with the metal cog is too tight maybe? But not sure how to adjust this.

Also another problem is that, at idle, its as if the throttle is fully open as it just flies off unless ive got the brake on. I Adjusted the air flow so that there is less coming in at idle but that didnt seem to make much difference at all.

I would suggest checking the idle screw. When the car is sitting at idle the carb should be 1/2 mill open and no more. Take the air filter off and look into the Carb and make sure the carb is only open 1/2 mill or so if not you should recheck the linkage ( adjust the throttle arm on the servo ) to set it to the above.
