I just had to put my 11y old Jack Russell down:(

She started limping and not walking on her front right leg on Saturday, and by the time it got to this morning she couldn't stand atall. The vet seems to think she either had a stroke or a brain tumour.

We were offered to take the very slim chance of putting her on a drip and intensive medication for the next few days to see if anything happened, but I chose not to, to stop her being in anymore pain.

The reason I call her 'dog' is because she was a rescue dog, and whoever had her before had named her 'Freda' and I hated that name. She wouldn't answer to anything else apart from dog lol.

This was the worst single thing I have ever had to do in my life. She was my best friend. R.I.P:(

Sorry to hear that m8
Its the hardest thing to have to make that decision, I have had to make it myself but you know it was the right thing to do.

It leaves a big hole in the family when you loose a loved pet :(

I feel for you. I recently PTS my border collie Max of 14 years as his back end went, it killed me inside losing him, so sad. I read the below poem whenever I feel any guilt and or sadness about having to put my best friend to sleep.

If it should be that I grow weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep
Then you must do what must be done
For this last battle can't be won

You will be sad, I understand
Don't let this grief then stay your hand
For this day more than all the rest
Your love for me must stand the test

We've had so many happy years
What is to come can hold no fears
You'd not want me to suffer, so
The time has come, please let me go.

Take me where my needs they'll tend
And please stay with me to the end
Hold me firm and speak with me
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time that you will see
The kindness that you did for me
Although my tail its last has waved
From pain and suffering, I've been saved.

Please don't be sad it must be you
Who has this painful thing to do
We've been so close, we two, these years
Don't let your heart hold back its tears.
