On Monday 29th August 2011, Adam (Jimmy to all who knew him because he looked like Jimmy Carrs brother) was hit by one of two cars that were racing on a 30mph road in Sheldon, Birmingham. He was 24. A barman in my local that I knew quite well, a very good friend of my parents.

Jimmy had worked at the pub for a couple of years. I knew him from my visits over that time and my parents knew him very well. To quote them "he's a really nice guy" and "I like Jimmy, He's a good bloke". Jimmy was cheerful, friendly and couldn't do enough for you.

Jimmy's mum picked him up from work after each evening shift, she did this to be nice and save him from getting a cab/bus home. He lived with her, no brothers or sisters, his Dad walked out years ago. He hated his Dad for many years, until a recent funeral, where he made his peace with his Dad and started to get to know him.

Jimmy recently applied for a new job, which he got. He wanted to leave the pub for a couple of personal reasons and a couple of issues in the current workplace. (he went out with the Managers Girlfriends sister for a while, they split up, this became a little awkward) His last shift was as evening on the 29th Agust 2011.

His best mate, arranged to take him out for a few drinks after work. His mum was in the know and wasn't picking him up that night. After work, Jimmy and four others headed into Solihull for a few drinks. Jimmy forgot his ID, and because it was hassle getting in/served, they decided to abandon that idea and head back to one of the friends house with a few drinks instead. They got a taxi from Solihull to Sheldon.

They arrived at the house and two passengers got out of the car and crossed the road. Jimmy got out next and stood next to the drivers door, sorting out the payment. The remaining two were still in the car.

The first of the two cars hit Jimmy at serious speed. The second car collided with the first. The first car stopped further up the road for a few seconds, then drove off. The second car was no longer able to drive, it had serious damage. Jimmy lay in the road. Passers by tried to resuscitate Jimmy, as did paramedics when they arrived. He died at the scene.

To say that everyone who knew him is gutted is an understatement. His mum is now in hospital as she already suffered with depression and they have admitted her for her own safety and wellfare.

For the love of god people, please, please remember what happened to Jimmy and get out onto the pavement if you can! A driver and front seat passenger have a wing mirror to check (you'll check it more often now I'm sure), but if you are a passenger, please get out on the pavement side.

R.I.P. Jimmy :(

Side Note:
The driver of the vehicle that hit Jimmy has been caught. The driver of the second car admitted knowing them, probably to lesser his sentence. The car has also been recovered. The police have used local CCTV from the A45 to establish that the cars were racing for some time before entering the 30mph zone. They have also confirmed that the injuries and evidence show cars travelling at high speed within that zone.

Edit:
My mum & dad were in the pub that night. Mum jokingly asked if he had to leave, he said he did really. She said to him, "you arent coming back are you", to which he gave her a look of "probably not". My dad had ordered a takeaway curry to be delivered to the pub. He asked Jimmy if he wanted his poppadums and veg. bhaji. Jimmy was chuffed that my dad had offered and took them. That's how well they new him. Reading that back is really upsetting.

20+ people from the pub got together last night about 8:30pm and went to the scene, which is only a couple hundred yards down the road and laid flowers. My parents couldn't talk to me about it, poor buggers.

Guys, I have made a point of not talking about how I feel the court case will go. I didn't want to sour the post because thinking about what is likely will just make me angry.

There's plenty of time for that, and for those that knew him, it's not important right now.

Of course, please discuss if you want, won't take offence or anything.

Who gets out of the car to pay a taxi fare? I'm also assuming that Jimmy was standing in the road whilst doing this.

Feel sorry for the poor sod but he should have known better if that's the case.

NB - Of course, those drivers shouldn't have been racing, but that's by the by.

Easy to say that after though isn't it. Suppose there's another lesson there too.

Hope his mum gets better!

Hopefully the council will do something to honestly prevent this from happening in the future again. (speed cameras or the such like)

Thoughts go out to friends, family and those affected.

I've lived in that area for years and I can honestly say that people don't race or drive fast down that road normally. The A45 in Sheldon is known for racers, it's a dual carriage way with a large junction/lights that seems to encourage traffic light GP's. Here: http://g.co/maps/8wsg

and Jimmy was killed here: http://g.co/maps/9t3e

Just where those people are.

There was a report in the paper on Monday, but it has no real details other than a man being killed on that road.

Prediction:
The person who hit him will be convicted of causing death by dangerous driving and will get 4 years and a 5-10 year ban. The other driver *might* get the same conviction and if so will likely see a 2 year sentence and 5 year ban.

The passengers in the cars (if any) will likely be un-prosecuted.

RIP Jimmy.

I know. I will get angry, but to be honest, it don't matter right now as it'll be ages before anything happens. I'll post back in here if/when I hear.
