Do we have any 1.5 Dci owners on these forums ? if so what do you think about your car ? would you recommend some one to buy one ? which do you own 86,100 or 106BHP version ?

Ive priced up the running costs and they are sooo cheap to run , 50/60+ mpg ,30quid a year road tax,low insurance, infact every thing looks rosey !

except one thing........ ive got a feeling the lack of horse power (on the 86bhp) would effect motor way driving and this is one of the major reasons im getting rid of our scenic, basically because every time we use it on the Mway i have to ring its neck going up the on ramp due to its lack of acceleration then joining traffic at around 50mph when ppl are coming up behind you at 70mph is quite hairy at times

but im wondering if the megane 1.5 dci engine with its higher torque and lower overall weight would suffer the same problems with slow acceleration when joing Mways ? i guess im just thinking out loud atm but id love to know what some actual owners think about their cars ? :)

Yeah i was really suprised when i found out road tax costs , i didnt think it even went as low as £30pa lol

little brother has one. ive driven it a few times, i expected it to be shockingly slow. it is quite nippy, its not bad. gets epic mpg and in two years and a lot of miles hes not had a single hiccuip

I've got the 1.5DCi 106 engine in my Megane and I'm happy with it, it is by no means fast but lots of those torque things low down mean that I never have trouble keeping up with traffic, in fact I find it keeps up with traffic better than my old Mondeo V6.

Economy is very good, driving it hard will see 50mpg, 55-60mpg is easily achievable and on a run from Cambridge to Newcastle with cruise set to 70mph I saw 64mpg.

The power band is very short (as with most modern diesels) so you'll find yourself using the 6-speed gearbox a lot, it's not the best box in the world but accurate enough and does the job it needs to do.

basically it depends on how many people are in it.
If you drive on your own or with just another passenger it will be fine and keep up with traffic without any pant browning moments, even though it's not particulary nippy.
If you've regularly got 5 people in it, the 86 bhp one will be horribly slow.

I really wouldn't get a Megane with the 86bhp engine. I drove a Clio with that engine and it was just about acceptable, I wouldn't want it in a bigger car though. If you can then get the 106bhp engine, the 6 speed box makes a big difference to the car at NSL/motorway speeds.

i see your point but then i guess it depends what your used too , my scenic is slow as hell and if the 86bhp megane is faster on the acceleration than it id be more than happy tbh :)

I have a 1.5 dci scenic grand(110 bhp), I wont say it's slow, but like all diesels it's slow of the start but once its going its fine it'll pull from 45 to 90 in sixth no hassles, makes for effortless driving.

I did test drive a megane 86bhp when looking for a new car last time round and it performed well, it was five up, three adults and two young kids, and it pulled up to and above motorway speeds with out fuss, was quite quiet to boot,
they are, as allready be said quite short in usablity in the rev range ie mine revs to 3k then gives very little more, the turbo comes on boost at about 1.3k. it will rev higher but just doesnt need to(/or want to).mpg wise the little 1.5 dci is great,I average 49mpg, but most of that is town and duel carridge ways, when in france this year and pottle around was netting 65mpg(at sea level)(over a couple of days) mine is the grand scenic so seven seats weigh abit more.
