yo, im about to build my first PC :o
ive got an r2 case with all the usual parts to go in it (in my sig)...
just wondering how long this should take me as a first timer to build my pc and get it installed ready for use?

Bit of an odd question?
I say just get on with it.

If you're going to be very tidy with cable management then it'll take a bit longer than if you just stuck everything in.

Don't rush, take time and make sure your grounded.

I did a very similar build a few weeks ago (see sig), I did mine over a weekend taking photos etc. The time consuming things were:

* Mounting extra Fractal Fans using the rubber pins provided (nightmare)
* Cable management: my mobo covers most of the holes so routing the 24pin cable was fun, and then I swapped out red sata cables for black ones etc (thanks to -VK-).

Take your time, enjoy it (but not too much) - I'm already wanting to buy more stuff for it! :(

I've just built a system in a Fractal R2. Started the build at 1PM, finished about 4.35.

Took an hour bench testing the parts before going in case, and working out the best way to do cable management.

Very happy with the results, despite the few reviews about cooling, I'm actually getting the same / slightly better temps than I had in my old Silverstone case.

its not an odd question, people who have built their own should be able to give me a rough/average time to expect. when i build it i want to do it all in one go.. not bits here bits there. so i wanna know how much time to allocate for this, im a busy man :)

cool, have you built rigs before? or was this 3:35hrs for a nooby? :)

If I wanted to there would be nothing stopping me from throwing it all together in 30 minutes. I spent time testing components before putting them into a case, working out how to properly route cables and completing cable management.

Take your time, and I always suggest testing your parts on the desk first before putting it all in your case. Modern motherboards have an onboard power switch for a reason :)

I build around 200 PC's a year for clients without looking at my own!
