R280 Vs 7950?

Hi all,

I had to send back my 7950 via RMA and the card is borked.

Sapphire no longer stock the version the card I sent back and nor do the retailer. I have been offered an R280 instead.

Is the R280 better than the 7950?

Also, out of interest how would an R280 go up against the 7970?

Are you talking R280 NON X?

Because i've not seen those for sale, but based on rumours they are about the same performance as the HD7950.

If it's an R280X offered then that's an upgrade.

Yes the 280X is an upgrade similar to a 7970 over your 7950. The 280X is for all intents and purposes a 7970ghz edition card with a slightly slower core speed. Snap their hands off and take that card.

I assume you'll be getting this one?

It isn't Sapphire doing it.

I had a pretty similar situation (RMA'ed a 6870) OCUK upgraded it to a 2GB 7850.
