Just been messing with some different ram and noticed that its running in tripple channel mode but with 16GB available (4x4) and channel A1 is showing abnormal, so i switched round the sticks and it still shows as A1 abnormal, so at this point i was thinking that A1 has somehow broke. Switched to bios chip 2 which is still on 0403 and booted to windows and its now in quad, phew!! so then switched back to bios chip 1 and back to windows and thats showing tripple so i presume the bios is corrupt?? went to flash with 801 and it says that it is not a UEFI bios/file, now what can i do???

You should have stayed on 0403. All the latest Bios are not good for me. 05xx being the best after 0208.

Not as good for clocking in my experience. I just rolled back a new board to 0208 as usual!!!!

Ok, but then you are talking from a OC on LN right? Once you hit the OC threshold of your hardware regarding your cooling and silicon lottery then i understand that bios can have a positive or negative effect.

However for the rest of us Padawans we will never really hit the OC threshold or maximum that a cpu is capable of so therefore a bios that you use will be irrelevant to the rest of us....?

What do you think?

Cheers

Iirc quite a lot of peoples OC results with later bios revisions are lower, mainly with watercooled and above specced systems and if i recall Raja(asus) said this was due to the earlier bios allowing more power(amps) and that it was not necessarily a good thing for mainstream users.
I personally dont use the older bios mainly because the OC profiles never loaded correctly, always took 2-3 times before all settings were applied which bugged me!!

Yeah i know what you mean but for custom water cooling i see no difference in bios as your not hitting the oc threshold of the cpu like 8pack is on LN. It should not make any difference for the rest of us unless pushing to the extreme.
