http://www.vr-zone.com/articles/Radeon_HD_2900_GT_Launch_on_Oct_8th_for_US$_199/5297.html

AMD plans to launch Radeon HD 2900 GT on October 8th at US$199 while HD 2900 Pro continues to be in limited supply at US$249. The existence of these 2 cards are just to get rid of the R600 stock that didn't attained XT speeds before RV670 comes along in November. However, HD 2900 XT, GT and Pro will reach EOL by end of October so the lifespan of the two new cards is really short. Radeon HD 2900GT will sport only 240 stream processors instead of 320 and a 256-bit memory interface instead of 512-bit for the 2900 Pro. HD 2900 GT card uses 256MB of GDDR3 memories while 2900 Pro card is able to use 512MB to 1GB of GDDR3/4 memories. Both cards are clocked at 600MHz core and 1.6GHz for the memories.

Looks like the 2900's are being discontinued in October. Which is a shock, It seems quite soon. I have a feeling ATi just wanted to recoup as much of the R600 production costs as possible then start fresh with a new outlay/product. Hopefully they fire the guy that designed the R600 aswell ;).

so the HD 2900 XT, GT and Pro will be discontinued by end of october??

so does this mean the 2950 in november will be around the same price of the 2900xt or the pro?

what will be the high end card? 2950xt? lol

Should be cheaper than the XT as its just the 2900 pro on a 55nm process with a 256 bit bus so i heard.

Aint even got their Dx10 drivers sorted yet and they killing off their cards, oh dear, what a ******* shambles.

Their next high-end card is the GX2 jobbie, the 2x cards slapped together, coming around Jan/Feb to take on the old 8800 Ultra, its a fiasco for them this. :D

after the HD 2900 XT, GT and Pro discontinued there be no high end card that what i don't understand.. or i guess the 2950pro will be... abit silly..

and they will use the excuse that driver support is no longer supplied for discontinued products.

they have lost the plot. and everything i said right from the start 8 months ago has happend. the prophecy has been almost fullfilled.

ati will go like 3dfx did.

why shoudl i waste my credit on them? they are too far down to bail out now, and will forever be playing catchup. they shoudl have taken my help 8 months ago. now the only help i can give them is : www.jobserve.co.uk

I hope the card isn't diminshed ahead of it's time, I hope some driver updates come with this thing!

the linux drivers have become open source i believe, and they will probably let the community take over the windows driver updates. can;t think of much more really.

I'm confused, I've just read a couple of threads where people are going on about how the 2900XT must be an embarrasment for AMD/ATI, how so? It's priced to compete with the 8800GTS 640 and beats it in most benchmarks so apart from the rather noisy fan under load, how exactly was it so bad?

I'd rather have a GTS 640 over a 2900XT.

ATi are running themselves though the floor now, gonna kill themselves off soon.
