r600 ATI

If you have the money for gtx and a penchent for impulse buying get it, however, you mentioned you had a dq6- crossfire compatible, one flavour of the r600 with be an x2900 XL this is likely to be as cheap as the 8800gts 320 or cheaper and is - as far as current sources are suggesting - a downclocked x2900xt - ati's current flagship to be -excluding the xtx for obvious reason.

Wait till the 2nd of may for the x2900xt benches, if it is a decent performer resting inbetween the gts and gtx then the x2900xl -a downclocked xt - would be cheap enough for you to get two and overclock both to and past xt speeds. Getting faster speed than a gtx X 1.5 speed - ish. Of course this is all based on the current stream of information thats available at present.

I know that I would go that way, especially seeing as r600 is likely to surpass the gtx in dx10 applications on card for card basis.

2x 2900s then, whichever incarnation it may be. just wait till the 2nd of may when the 2900 gets released before making your decision

forget the fanboys, wait and make an 'informed' deciscion. its less than a week away, just wait instead of thinking that is sucks, it might well be the case that 2x 2900xl' will destroy an 8800gtx for dx9 and wipe the floor in dx10, just wait for it, pretty please, then make your decision

i have been with nvidia for far to long i just wanted to try the ati side for a while, i will wait a week and give it some thought, as i want to be able to play crysis when it comes out.

im glad i took the step into dual core processors though, my P4 was getting a bit slow the dear thing, i have had a many good times using it though.

i will wait and see this 2900xt benchmarks look like, as i hear ati have a superior crispness to their images (less jaggys).

edit: i never listen to all the fanboys, i make my own mind up unless the benchmarks say something differant. its a bit like my college friends say "ooh i have a PS3 and it owns your 360" i just happily sit at the side and listen to a very funny developing argument between a group of people who dont know jack NO SWEARING about anything.

ATI definitely did have a massive advantage in image quality with the X1800/X1900 Series, but Nvidia really turned it around. The image quality on the 8800 Series is far beyond anything we've ever seen.

ATI might take it a step further with the 2900 Series, but time will have to tell.

The Dailytech benchmarks show it being about the same level of performance unless all you play is Half Life 2: Episode 1. There's no way it's going to cost the same as an 8800GTS 640MB on launch day either.

Oops, just noticed that you're an X1900 owner. Are you one of the ones who put off buying an 8800GTS so you could wait for R600? I was going to do the same and I'd have felt bitter and defensive too now, so I understand. ;)

Not really, the main reason I never bought anything better than the 1900 is no time to play games at a level to justify ~500quid expenses on gaming hardware. (Still on DDR and 939)

All you need is a PCI-E slot though. :p

I wouldn't worry about DirectX 10 yet, to be honest. By the time it's doing the rounds, 2900/8800 will be old hat. :(

True, and I got 2 x 16. However, the incentive is not there without titles. I admit if Crysis was out now, most probably I was gonna own a GTX as well, even if I had to skip eating for 2 weeks :p But...

People who spent moeny and ALREADY enjoyed the 8800 cards, well spent.

People who will spent money in the following week, I suggest they wait JUST out of curiosity.

This is my view :)
