R600 Delayed Till Next Year !!

I thought it was due to come out around Vista time next year anyway, i don't see the point in them releasing DX10 cards now when you can't use DX10 till you get Vista, and thats not due for release till about end of Jan/Feb i heard, so by the time you can even use it your cards months old, and there will be new ones coming as they come out all the time new cards.

That other article there says G80 is rumoured to ship in November, what the hell is the point in that, thats 4+ months before you can even use the DX10 on the damn thing, and 4 months is a helluva long time in Graphics cards, by the time Vista ships and you can use DX10 on your G80 Nvidia will probably be releasing their next DX10 card making the G80 their slowest DX10 card before DX10's even been released LMAO. :D

Cashing in on the unsuspecting public, oh look new card with DX10 gota buy it, shame your not gona be able to use the DX10 for another 4 odd months, so you really bought yourself another DX9 card, as thats all its good for, and no doubt like the one you already had. :(

Welcome to the forums btw. :)

When will people learn to stop citing Inquirer articles as sources? :(

Inquirer aside, here is what we have known all along: -

G80 will be out before R600.
R600 will use unified shaders, G80 may not.
Both will be out before or around Vista launch.

Fín.

well im saving all my pennies till next march so i can buy a monster rig for Crysis and other DX10 games.

no need getting anytype of new hardware this year if you already have a good machine.

That was my plan, then OcUK had some nice offers on Core 2 Duo components and X1900XTs. :(

Since DX10 isn't going to ship before Vista comes out, what would really be the point of releasing them beforehand?

If they released them to coincide with the Vista release then all their marketing literature could show off the power of DX10. If they release it before they'll have to rely on people knowing that whilst their graphics aren't going to look any different in the short term (will be faster), they'll look totally different when DX10 comes out. That's crediting consumers with a lot of intelligence that they haven't got. :D

Lots of rumours flying around that G80 isn't that hot on DX10...
R600 is supposed to be a real DX10 monster, but as said above what's the point of launching b4 vista. Also, many people will not upgrade to vista straight away, so DX10 games will be rarer than rocking horse **** to start off!

hence killer dx10 games like crysis :)
Who in their right mind would pay up to £500 for one game though? Count me out of the DirectX 10 scene until late 2007 or early 2008.

"Killer title" means software that runs like a three legged dog on current hardware, by the way. Crysis will be fully DirectX 9 compatible, so it's not a "DirectX 10 killer title."

Runs on a DX9 card under XP, put Crysis on DX9 XP against Crysis on DX10 Vista and i bet your playing spot the diff, if you think its gona look like a totally diff game when ran on DX10 then i rekon your in for a shock. :p

People will upgrade to Dx10 cards, if , like me, there primary computer still contains a 9800pro!

I will upgrade to DX10...not for cyrsis, dont get me wrong, im looking forward to it and will get it but i wont upgrade for that reason, i'll upgrade for future dx10 games as well and will not upgrade the second dx10 comes out, i'll leave it a coupla months after release to see how the technology pans out and who has the market lead at the time

which is why between now and then i will be upgrading my current rig (which some people may think is pointless) but I like to still be able to run everything max right up until the next lot fo hardware comes out

although I dont think il be going cnoroe, im going to wait a little bit and get the quad kensington core cpus which intel are about to release as well as a 7950gx2

Aye, if you're just upgrading for the sake of upgrading then why not, but there are some people out there who lack common sense and think that buying G80/R600 purely for DirectX 10 is not a complete waste of money. :)

The difference between you and what I said in the quote you posted is that you won't be paying up to £500 just to play one game. ;)

I think you might be surprised.

Changes in DirectX are more revolutionary than increases in graphics card power (although obviously the latter makes the former possible). Major version releases of DX have historically brought with them radical changes.

DX9 has been around nearly 4 years now - can you remember how differently games looked 4 years ago?

Not trying to "big up" DX10 for no reason because I have no vested interest to one way or the other, but I can say from a programming point-of-view that the sort of stuff they've incorporated into it will make games look a lot different on hardware that supports it.

this is very true...but people are expecting these miraculous changes in crysis...one of the first dx10 games....I doubt this will happen, a few months down the line after dx10 has been out a while yes games will be coded specifically for it and will therefore look much better on dx10 cards than on dx9, but to start with i doubt there will be much noticable difference between crysis running on a high spec dx9 system than on a brand new dx10 system

I'm just desperate to get something a little more powerful under the hood!! :D
