Have the option to get either of these, but only one.

  • HP SE326M1 has 25 x sff hdd bays
  • R710 has 6 x lff hdd bays

I think they're roughly specced with similar hardware.

Where it's going won't matter that much, but i'm wondering about noise of both of these units...

Any reasons I should pick one over the other? Head says the Dell, i'm half tempted by the 25 sff bays of the HP because I could defienitely put a good few old drives in that if I wanted at some point.

Dell. I think.
The real question is what can you do with 25 HDD's that you can't do with 6? More drives to go wrong and break RAID arrays.

What will you be doing with the units? What are the specs exactly?

I've got dual Dell R710s in my homelab and the 6 bays are fine and good with decent capacity drives or SSDs in the 2.5" holders. They're pretty quiet to be honest with a sas card and 10gbe card full of drives and memory.

I have the R710 and it's an absolute beast, I don't have the SFF bay model, but I don't see the need for 25x drives unless you have silly storage requirements.
