Right i just received my new graphics card today yay :), but upon closer inspection i thought i had two molex connectors to connect to the 6 pin but one of them is coming back from the DVD drive, will this still work? I have installed it it switches on and the screen works but my pc wont detect the card to install drivers or anything.

What PSU have you got, I would use the direct PCI-E cables from the PSU.

You will need both 6 pins connected.

The card only takes 1 six pin, my PSU is 600w but an old one and doesn't have any 6 pin connectors just molex and i thought it had two but one of them is coming back from the DVD drive.

The PSU is vital bud. Skimp on the case (which you have) but never the PSU. You can use the molex adapter that came with the GPU but I wouldn't be tempted to leave it like that. I'd refrain from OC'ing the GPU till you swap in a better PSU.

You want something like that which has a 3 year warranty. It's semi modular which will really help you out in that budget case. You don't have to bin that Alpine PSU, you can keep it to hand as a known working one should you ever need to troubleshoot a PSU issue.

Yeah i will be upgrading the psu just not right away, but my card still isn't working and the only conclusion i can come up with is the second molex is not going straight from the psu its coming back from the optical drive, i have swept the previous drivers from my hd6670 and re installed the new r9 270 drivers but nothing cpu z isn't detecting the card neither is the CCC (i have tried this twice) please switch this thread to graphics cards if that would be better, thanks for advice though.

You can run multiple components from a single cable, it's common to have multiple HDDs plugged in, that's the whole point of have the extra connectors on the cable.

Either the GPU is dead on arrival or you need to pop into the BIOS to set the GPU as a priority over the IGP (doubtful if you already had a GPU in use before though). As stulid said you might need to update the BIOS, the Z77-D3H was picky over GPUs until the BIOS was updated for example.

Best of luck with it fella.
