So I'm gathering parts to put together my first rig. Ideally i was looking to spend around £150, I could maybe stretch to £200 but only if it's going to be worth it.

The 280 is right around my budget and from what I've read seems a pretty capable card for gaming at 1080p.

I'm wondering if I should maybe hold off and pick up a 285, although from a few posts I've read around here it doesn't seem very popular, would the 280 be a better buy?

Also, do Nvidia have anything comparable around the same price?

I'm hanging on until we get nvidia pricing if I can help it and you only have to wait until next week for reviews and pricing on the 285.

I'm considering a 285 as it looks shorter than the 280x and I need whatever I buy to fit in an SG05 case.

You might find a 770 could be a good option if you hang on and want nvidia.

I can't see the new nvidia stuff hitting your budget I'm afraid.

GTX 760, is around your price, but both 280 and 285 is better pick than nvidia's option.
i would say go with 285, you get freesync compatible card, the 280 isn't, and that's shaping up to be one of the best features in 2015, smooth gaming no tearing or latency...for when you update your monitor :p
and star citizen, alien isolation, good games...

Definitely the 285 surely? Newer card and unless youre going for multiple cards and a high res monitor, 2Gb Vram shouldnt matter

Or wait for the 285x :D
