r9 280 vs 7970

Im looking to upgrade my gpu as i found a decent deal from a friend for a brand new unopened AMD Saphphire Radeon HD 7970 for £150 but overclockers prices are good too and im not whether to get the above or the one below from OCUk:

The 7970 will be better, the R9 280 (nonX) is based on a 7950.

Yip, the 280 is basically a 7950, whilst the 280X is a 7970. There wont be a massive deal of a difference (~5% clock for clock I believe). If the 7970 comes with any kind of warranty I would jump all over it tbh.

Not sure what cooler it will have, but even with the reference blower style, most 7970's will be able to hit the powertune limit of 1125 core 1575 memory, which is a good 30% overclock!
