I need some help here, I've been trying to figure this out all day... I got a R9 280X all day and it's doing my head in...

Note: The card is not overclocked. Windows 7 fresh install, I've reinstalled the drivers twice. Temperature is reading 60 under load.

I keep getting a BSOD after 15 minutes or so of play.

Here's the crash dump...

I doubt it's the same issue i had but when i had my 560Ti at first i used a 4pin molex to 6pin PCI adapter, my games would run fine temps would be good but the pc would lock up an crash after 15-20 mins of playing with a recurring sound loop from the moment the game froze, i switched PSU's over to one that had 2 6pins and no need for the adapter and the issue never occurred again. Are you using an adapter for the pci cable? It is probably not the same issue but the symptoms just sounded the same to me.

whats your pc specs?

im guessing at memory?

"0xc0000005 - The instruction at 0x%08lx referenced memory at 0x%08lx. The memory could not be %s"

I'm not using an adapter, it's a Antec 520w High current PSU with 8 pin connector.

I got the GPU yesterday , no games were crashing with my old GTX 460.

Mmm.. I installed an extra 4GB of RAM (same manufacterer/same spec) a week ago, but why wouldn't it conflict with my old GPU?

System specs are:

Intel i5 4670k
R9 280X
520W Antec PSU
Gigabyte Z87-G43 MB
OCZ AGILITY 3 SSD

It's also worth noting I had to remove my sound card today because the GPU was interfering with it.

So how much pc ram in total? If 16gb 1.10v CPU/vtt voltage might help(dunno what its labelled as on haswell, but one two clicks more than auto)

It's 8GB of RAM at the moment .

I will try Memtest after I play other games, it usually only happens after playing for 15-20 minutes so I'll have to play another game for half an hour or so :P

I played Mass Effect 3 and Skyrim and didn't have any major issues but the screen froze 2 times for about 3 seconds.

What I noticed though is on those 2 games I get a steady 60 FPS while in Witcher 2 with everything enabled including ubersampling I'm only getting 30-40 fps as I would expect since it's such a demanding game to max.

Now what I'm wondering is:

1) Could this be a heating issue due to Witcher stressing the card so much? (Its not overclocked but it's factory overclocked)
2) Is the PC hanging due to lack of power when the card is being stressed? (I have a Antec 520w high current PSU but it's about 3 years old now)
3) Is the witcher just buggy like that?

I give up on playing that game but I'd be keen to get to the bottom of this :D

I'm running the FurMark Burn In Stress Test with 4x MSAA turned on
and with 99% Load GPU already reached 72 degrees in 6 minutes, is that normal ?

Edit: To the poster above, you might be on to something, I'm just thinking, this GPU under load might take about 300 watts... the processor takes about 85 watts . let's say for arguement sake the motherboard and SSD take 20 watts in total.

That's 405 watts there, if the PSU is 520w but loses 20% due to efficiency issues, it must really be getting stressed out.

Time for a new PSU ?

It's been on for 19 minutes at 79 degrees though so I think heat seems fine.

A very quick BSOD followed by a reboot though, seems like some sort of shut down to prevent failure, could be the PSU, I'm not too bothered as it just gives me an excuse to buy one and really quite keen to get to the bottom of this either way.

After 37 minutes it went back to 69 degrees. I turned it off now.

I have 2 fans in the front although no HDDs to cool them down, I have 1 fan at the bottom blowing up.

I have the PSU fan blowing to the GPU and the GPU fans pointing at the PSU. Not the greatest CPU Cooler (Alpenfenh or something like that) and 1 fan taking heat out in the back.

It's a Fractal R3, shouldn't be a problem I'd imagine.

I don't think there is a temp problem.

I think this is either

1) Power Issue
2) Witcher 2 Conflicting with a driver or not something, I googled Witcher 2 BSOD and there's endless posts about it.
3) Problem with the GPU when it's heavy under load (playing witcher) but it ran the fumark test for almost 40 minutes so I don't think it's that.

I'm out of ideas too :D

A PSU degrades over time but 3 years I would be surprised if it's lost 10 watts off efficiency from general usage. But im guessing with your PSU being 85% efficient it should be able to deliver 440 watts under heavy load so take 10 watts off that its hitting 430.

This is seeming quite low as your system can quite easily be hitting 400 - 420 watts under load. Not to mention how many fans do you have in your case? do you have a fan controller, Dvd/cd drive? or any other components which require power even stuff you connect by USB? all this stuff will consume some juice so could quite possibly be your PSU.
