R9 280X upgrade?

Keen to upgrade my 280X, it makes a tonne of noise (sounds like an Apache trying to take off under my desk) and just doesn't provide the FPS needed for my 1440p screen.

However, I have a Freesync monitor (which I bought because I had AMD, only to find the 280X won't do it... :( ).

What's the best bang for buck? I'm not looking to remortgage, so would like to pick up something sub-£200, but could stretch if it would get much better value.

Might be worth looking out for a second-hand R9 290/290X or equivalent.

Otherwise, new, you're looking at probably spending over 200 on something like an RX 570 or 580.

Although there will definitely be a performance boost, in some instances you will most likely still have to compromise on the odd graphics setting.

Quite how much your CPU will be holding you back - even at a higher res like 1440p, I can't say for sure, but I do think that is/will be a limiting factor.
