Hi Guys,

I have just got a 290 to replace my 780 and am having a nightmare with it.

Im having black screen crashes while running bf4.

I know this is a known issue, but the latest beta drivers which are meant to help do not at all. This is my software info in Catalyst:

Catalyst Version: 13.11

AMD Catalyst Control Center Version: 2013.1129.1143.20969

Driver Packaging Version: 13.25.18-131129a-165578E-ATI

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Try using the latest beta driver. Also, is your memory clock at stock clock? If it is, while it is far from ideal, but you could try downclocking the memory clock and it should improve stability for BF4, as it seem to be the one games that can easily get black screen and quite sensible to the speed of the memory.

Hi Marine,

I am using the latest beta driver-still no joy. Completely stock.

Im just wondering whether to rma as I have only had it a few days (not from ocuk though). It has the elphida memory if that makes any difference...

To be honest, the most occurance of black screen I've seen people mention happened is ALWAYS BF4...frankly I'm not sure if it's game issue that for some reason has severe stability issue with the 290s' memory.

You could either send it back under DSR for a refund (but you'd have to pay postage), or try lowing the memory clock and see if you are ok with it.

Thanks.

I am happy with the cards performance-I just dont want to get another one and have the same issue if you get me...
I know.

I would suggest you try games other than BF4 and see if you still randomly get black screen. If you are getting the same problem in other games as well, then it might worth considering sending it back; if the issue really is only occur in BF4, then you may considering putting up with it and try underclocking the memory clock to see if it helps (dropping it from 1250MHz down to 1100-1150MHz for example). The issue should hopefully be solved in future driver and/or BF4 update.

I bought the R9 290 Sapphire Vapor-X

I got x2 black screens within 10mins of bootupp and I was only browsing the net. More random black screens continued. I thought it was my monitor (Samsung syncmaster 1920x1080 60Hz) being a few years old mixed with drivers issues aswell. So I decided to buy a Benq XL2411Z 144Hz monitor and reinstall fresh drivers (14.4) but I still have problems. Black screens don't happen with new Benq monitor but I get bad flickering.

So there is issues with both monitors when the R9 290 is installed.

I put my GTX470 back in and tried the new monitor and its been working fine at 144Hz.

RMA 290?
